Study to Studio Painting

April 11th and 12th

Friday 11am-4pm

Saturday 11am-4pm

Virtual Class - ZOOM

Intermediate to advanced painters; oil, acrylic, pastel.

This class will focus on bringing a study - plein air or preliminary sketch to a refined studio painting. We will focus on materials, drawing, color, composition and execution.  This will give an in-depth approach to how Ben creates conceptual studio paintings. It also allows each painter to seek help from Ben as they paint.

Requirements

There is homework before class starts

Each student must have a plein air painting or studio study that they want to enlarge and or turn into a more refined studio painting.  This will put focus on students building an idea, deciding on color use and execution of the information they will need for a larger painting. Reference photos will not be used. We will instead rely on the information used in preliminary work to work out a finished and well executed painting.

Being comfortable working on ZOOM along with other painters doing the same thing.

Being able to work with your ZOOM on your painting and palette. The Same fashion as I will demonstrate- (I have suggestions to help with this if needed)

Choose a study work that you can enlarge or create in a 5hr window. I would suggest 20x24 and smaller if you tend to work at a slower pace.

Friday

Introduction of class and of myself

Ben will lecture on why he chose the image in regard to design, palette, composition as well as what he wants to say. We will discuss materials as well.  He will paint a 24x30 start to finish from an 8x10.

Ben’s Demo - 11:45-4pm.

Saturday

Each student will work on their painting using only the reference painting they have created for the class.  Ben will give one on one instruction to each student painting through the course of the day.  Ben will follow up with an email on final critique of the work you produced.
